Support for your emotional health during pregnancy and early parenthood

MumSpace offers evidence-based information and practical tools to support you during pregnancy and after your baby is born.

If you are unsure how you are feeling, this page will help you:

  • Reflect on your mood and emotions
  • Recognise common signs of perinatal depression and anxiety
  • Choose the option that best matches your needs

Emotional changes during pregnancy and early parenthood are common. Sometimes these feelings settle on their own. Sometimes extra support can help.

Looking after your wellbeing during pregnancy and early parenthood can also make a difference. Explore practical strategies for managing stress, staying connected and adjusting to change in our guide to supporting your wellbeing during pregnancy and early parenthood.

MumSpace uses a stepped approach to care. You can begin with a simple mood check-in and move to more structured support, if and when you need it.

All programs are free, evidence-based and developed for women in Australia during pregnancy and early parenthood. They are accredited under the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health Standards.

Check in on your mood

If you are unsure whether what you are feeling is part of normal adjustment or something more, the first step is to check in on your mood.

Monitoring your emotions over time can help you notice patterns and decide whether you may benefit from extra support.

MumSpace offers two ways to do this:

Both tools are free and confidential.

The MindMum app includes a simple “How I’m Feeling” tool that allows you to rate your mood throughout the day.

You can:

  • Check in using visual mood indicators
  • Track changes over time
  • Record positive activities and events
  • Notice what improves or lowers your mood

This option is helpful if you want to better understand your emotions and build practical coping strategies.

If you are concerned your mood may be low, you can complete the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) through the MumMoodBooster or Mum2BMoodBooster programs.

The EPDS is a widely used 10-item screening tool that helps identify symptoms of depression during pregnancy and after birth.

After completing the questionnaire, your score will be explained so you can better understand how you are feeling. You can then choose to continue into the full MumMoodBooster or Mum2BMoodBooster program for practical support and strategies to improve your mood.

Throughout the programs, you can also monitor your mood and track changes over time.
